Dale and Ann recognize there are multi-level opportunities for personal growth when individuals interact with horses .   Self-confidence, self-esteem, and the development empathy in an individual can be accompanied by the physical benefits such as improved coordination, balance, and core muscle strengthening.

Although Dale works with all ages and populations at Mesa Farm, he has a keen interest in working with youth and especially youth coming from challenging socio-economic backgrounds.  Many of the participants at Mesa Farm come as a group through agencies and organizations throughout Central Massachusetts.   Dale, Ann, and Mesa Farm have collaborated with City to Saddle (www.citytosaddle.org), a young non-profit organization that has a mission to provide avenues for horsemanship opportunities for youth that would have difficulty accessing equine experience through existing traditional channels.

Dale is certified as a Registered Riding Instructor through NARHA, the leading therapeutic riding organization in the United States.  He concentrates on working with able-bodied participants and recognizes that any time spent with a horse can be therapeutic.

One of the activities offered at Mesa Farm is equestrian interactive vaulting, sometimes described as gymnastics on horseback.  Respect and self-confidence can occur on an individual level while building trust and cooperation in this non-competitive team discipline.  Dale is certified through NARHA to instruct interactive vaulting activities.

Most of Mesa Farm's programs are directed towards youth through various agencies in the
Central Massachusetts area.   Some of these groups are able to participate because of the City to Saddle connection, and others are able to obtain their own funding.

Other activities at Mesa Farm include week-long summer horsemanship programs for children and specific programs such as draft horse training and handling workshops.
